Packing Brushes, Unpacking Experiences
Packing Brushes, Unpacking Experiences
Soon after I stepped away from a fast-paced city life, a friend took me to this hidden gem, Torda Creek, and I’m still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor!
The sun rose over the horizon, painting the sky with hues of yellow and orange, and I swear I heard the birds singing in harmony.
As I stood at the edge of Torda Lake, the expansive stretch of water and sky seemed to dissolve the boundaries of my being. My heart felt open, capable of containing the vastness of this space.
I noticed a few people on their morning strolls. We were all here, suspended in this boundless moment, our individual selves dissolving into this expanse. We’d nod and smile at each other, like we were all in on some secret. It was beautiful!
Was it the seamless blend of nature and tranquility? The synchronicity that seemed to exist between the surroundings and those who visited? Or was it something more intangible, a sense of connection that transcended the physical realm?
As I began to walk, the lake and the sky seemed to come alive, inquiring about my experience.
“How does it feel,” the lake asked, “to have your boundaries dissolve, to become one with this space?”
I paused, reflecting on the sensation. “It feels… effortless,” I replied. “As if… a sense of belonging, a sense of oneness with the world around me.”
The sky nodded, its clouds drifting lazily across the horizon. “And what of the sense of separation, the boundaries that normally define your being?”
I smiled, feeling a sense of wonder. “They seem to disappear, to become irrelevant in the face of this vastness.”
The lake and the sky nodded in unison, as if acknowledging a profound truth.
“This is the essence of spirituality,” the lake said. “A sense of oneness, of connection to the world around us. A recognition that our boundaries are not fixed, but rather fluid and permeable.”
The sun continued to rise, casting a golden glow over the lake, and I felt a deep sense of gratitude for this experience.
“Thank you,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
The lake and the sky smiled, their union a reminder of the boundless nature of existence.
Walking back to my car, I knew that the impending coastal road development would soon alter this area, leaving only memories of a time when the boundaries between self and landscape were blissfully blurred. I felt a pang of sadness at the thought.
“Yes, traveler, nothing remains static,” the lake said. “But for now, let us soak in the beauty of this moment, and acknowledge your experience. May you carry this serenity with you always.”
As I acknowledge the impermanence of this moment, I hope that the essence of this space would remain, a testament to the transformative power of nature and the human spirit, a reminder of the profound impact that such spaces can have on our lives.
Torda Lake’s waters unfold across two distinct sides, each with its own unique character. On one side, the lake nestles towards the Salvador Do Mundo Panchayat, while the other side stretches around Paitona Arc.
As you drive along the lake’s scenic stretch, you’ll find designated pull-over spots where you can park your two or four-wheeler. Take a moment to breathe in the tranquility, but remember to keep the noise level down.
You never know when someone might be soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, lost in thought, or when a fisherman might be patiently waiting for a catch on the low stoned wall.
Torda Creek is Porvorim’s little secret in North Goa.
